On this short break,  you will visit Portugal’s two most important cities. Discover cosmopolitan Lisbon with its stunning architecture and colourful neighbourhoods. In Porto, you will explore the historical centre and learn about the local Porto wine.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Lisbon

On arrival, you will be met by your driver at the arrival’s hall. Enjoy a private transfer to your hotel in Lisbon.

This evening on your Old Lisbon Night of Fado you will experience the emotion of Fado, the evocative, haunting and traditional Portuguese music. You will meet with a local Fado singer and experience the magic of Portuguese Fado, a form of music listed by UNESCO as of “World Intangible Cultural Heritage.” An important part of everyday life in Lisbon, you will see that there is no better way to learn about Portuguese culture. You will go to some typical Fado houses, where Fadistas have earned their living for decades.

You can wander the alleys and squares around Praca Martim Moniz, a multicultural part of Lisbon that takes you away from the touristy places. Here you will discover charming local taverns that were instrumental in the history of Fado culture. Your evening experience also includes a delicious traditional dinner as well as the enchanting Fado performances.

Day 2: Lisbon

This morning you will experience Lisbon like a local, with a local. During your personalised tour, you will enjoy the beauty of Lisbon, see some hidden gems as well as the most popular highlights.

Your experience starts at the famous Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara viewpoint. Here you will enjoy the breath-taking sights while listening to unique local stories from your local guide, learning how the city has changed over time and about the great mysteries and insights of the notorious 1755 earthquake. Make your way past the beautiful Carmo church and marvel at the San Roque golden chapel. Along the way, you will stop at small family-run businesses for local bites. Enjoy an authentic snack of cheese and chorizo paired with a glass of local wine. Then visit the oldest Ginjinha Bar in Lisbon to try out the famous sour cherry liquor. Our local guides will share their knowledge and stories about everything, from the Bairo Alto and Alfama neighbourhoods, important churches and so much more!

This afternoon you won’t just eat Pastel de Nata while you are in Lisbon, on your experience with us you will learn how to bake your own! You will start off at a local bakery where you will learn how to make the delicious Pastel De Nata, better known as the famous Portuguese version of a custard tart. You will also enjoy a private cooking class with a professional baker at a local Lisbon bakery. This experience will give you a great background into Portuguese baking and show you how to recreate an authentic Pastel de Nata back home.

Day 3: Porto

Today you will travel to Porto by train. Enjoy this short scenic journey in your 2nd class seat.

This afternoon you will enjoy a walking tour through the most interesting places in the historical city of Porto. Your 3 hour guided tour will be led by a local guide, a native of the city. You will start your journey by visiting two of the most beautiful churches in the city, the Carmo and Carmelitas churches. See the bell tower of Clérigos Church, Porto Cathedral and São Bento Railway Station, some of the most interesting local monuments.

The beauty of today is that as well as the main sights, this tour will also take you to some breathtaking sights away from the large tour groups in places that buses can’t access. Your guide will tell you about the politics, religion, local customs, traditions, gastronomy, wines, and everything else you need to know about Porto’s local customs. You will also enjoy a tasting of Portugal’s famous traditional pastry.

Day 4: Porto

After breakfast, you will head off for your guided tour through the spectacular Douro Valley. Beginning your journey in Porto, travel to the Douro Valley to admire the splendid scenery before enjoying a delicious traditional lunch alongside the Douro River.

Next on your itinerary is a visit to two wineries in the valley where you can enjoy an introduction to the wines produced here as well as wine tastings. You will end your day with a ride on a traditional Rabelo boat along the Douro River, with time to admire the scenic valley views before travelling back to Porto.

Day 5: Depart Porto

Leaving your hotel you will be transferred to Porto airport for your return flight home.
