After breakfast, you will be met and transferred by tuk-tuk to Wat Avtea, a remote and authentic Cambodian village directly South of Siem Reap. Here you will be welcomed into the home studio and gallery of renowned contemporary artist Channy Chhoeun.
Born in Battambang, Channy was only ten years old when his family relocated to the jungle region 100 kilometres away from his hometown in 1998. The move was part of a government scheme to support underprivileged families by donating land and encouraging self-sufficiency through farming.
As a young boy, Channy was always a keen artist and loved to sketch his paintings using only sticks and soil. When his father heard about Phare Ponleu Selpek, an art school providing free education in Battambang, he enrolled Channy. Passionate about birds and their relationship with humans and the environment, Channy is keen to paint and share about the dangers that befall wildlife in our modern world. This is reflected in much of his work.
