Meet Tung Le – The Man Behind the Wheel of Unforgettable Journeys

Tung Le is one of Vivu Journeys’ dedicated Driver Guides, known for going above and beyond to ensure a memorable journey for his passengers. With over 20 years of driving experience, 7 years in the tourism industry and a deep love for sharing the beauty of Vietnam, Tung offers much more than just a ride—he delivers an immersive experience. 

BEHIND THE WHEELS: HIS TIPS FOR A SMOOTH JOURNEY

Throughout Tung’s 7 years in the industry, his philosophy to tailor a great experience has never been anything big or fancy, but with small and thoughtful touches that truly make a difference. Sharing his tips for making guests feel comfortable during trips, Tung said that he always prepares cold bottled water and tasty snacks to refresh his beloved travelers on their long journey. He also takes time to teach international guests about basic Vietnamese phrases for communication and explain the local currency to help them feel more at ease in his homeland. During certain times of the year, Tung goes the extra mile by purchasing local specialties as gifts for his travelers, like lotus seeds and explaining their health benefits, such as how lotus seeds aid with insomnia and introducing them to lotus heart tea, a calming drink. 

SCENIC STOPS: THE MUST-VISIT WINTER DESTINATION 

As a Travel Guide, Tung has set his foot in many wonders of the country, but when asked for a recommendation on where to visit in Northern Vietnam this winter, Tung immediately suggested Sapa and Mount Fansipan. Breath–taking but also breath-refreshing, these destinations does not just offer the magnificent views of the majestic mountains of Northwest Vietnam, but also welcomes its visitors with crisp, clean air. In addition, travelers can explore the local ethnic culture by visiting remote villages and savouring traditional cuisine, all while immersing in the stunning natural beauty that defines this region. 

A DRIVE TO REMEMBER: A HEARTWARMING ENCOUNTER AT TAM DAO 

One of Tung’s most unforgettable experiences was guiding a group of tourists to a Bear Rescue Center in Tam Dao. Seeing the rescued bears, formerly exploited for their bile, now being lovingly cared for by dedicated staff and volunteers has left a lasting impression on him and the guests. Tung admired their deep compassion shown toward these animals, each treated as if they were part of the caregivers’ own family. 

NAVIGATING OBSTACLES: SAFETY AND FOCUS ON THE ROAD

Being both a driver and guide has posed such unique challenges for Tung, especially in balancing safe driving with engaging conversations during the trip. To overcome these challenges, he strategically engages with foreign guests during breaks or before setting off, allowing him to focus on driving while still delivering informative and enjoyable commentary about the destinations. 

Language barriers can also sometimes make communication difficult, but as a constant learner, Tung also always works on expanding his English vocabulary and practicing communication with his guests to ensure the best trip possible.

As Tung himself says, “I feel happy and proud to work in the tourism industry and to have the opportunity to take customers to many places and explore the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam.” His dedication to learning, improving his communication, and sharing his love for Vietnam’s hidden gems make him an invaluable part of Vivu Journeys.
