1. Community Development in Mai Chau

Nestled in the lush valley of Hoa Binh Province in Northern Vietnam, Mai Chau sits like a hidden gem, just 150 kilometres southwest of Hanoi. Its charm extends beyond the main town to include 22 surrounding communes, each boasting five to six villages. Here, cultural richness abounds, with the predominant White Thai ethnic minority proudly preserving their heritage and way of life.

However, the life of ethnic minority communities in Mai Chau is facing constraints, including:

  • Healthcare services
  • Housing infrastructure
  • Economic opportunities

These challenges significantly hinder the overall development and quality of life for local people. Therefore, efforts and contributions that directly address these difficulties have become more meaningful and essential than ever before.

The primary objective of our initiatives in Mai Chau is to ensure that every community development project has a positive impact on all stakeholders. This includes enhancing the local community’s economic and social well-being, supporting sustainable environmental practices, and fostering positive interactions between tourists and residents.

3. Building Dream Homes for Na Phon Village

3.1. Project overview

Na Phon village, located in the Mai Chau District, is home to a community facing significant socio-economic challenges, particularly in housing. Many families in this village live in inadequate shelters, lacking basic amenities and suitable living conditions. To address this pressing issue and improve the quality of life for the underprivileged residents, we developed a project to construct new homes for two of the most economically disadvantaged households in the village.

3.2. Project Goal

This housing initiative is designed to address urgent living condition challenges while creating a stable foundation for long-term community well-being. It focuses on two core objectives

  • Housing Solutions: The primary goal is to provide safe, decent, and permanent housing for impoverished families, thereby creating a more secure and hygienic living environment.
  • Quality of Life Enhancement: By building sturdy homes equipped with essential facilities, the project aims to promote security, health, and dignity among the residents.

The project is implemented through clearly defined stages:

  • Stage 1: Design blueprints and decide construction materials by the end of May 2024
  • Stage 2: Excavate building foundation and construct house frame by Oct 2024
  • Stage 3: Construct roof by Nov 2024
  • Stage 4: Finish and paint the exterior, install plumbing, and hand over to the house owner by Jan 2025
