Story

In 2000, Mr Quoc’s family moved to Lap An Lagoon, making it their home and source of income growing oysters and catching fish.

The family, particularly the father Mr Thien, takes great pride in their heritage and work. Mr Thien enjoys sharing his daily life and offering insights into the people of Vietnam. Life in their community is typically quiet and isolated, but tourism has brought vibrancy and connection to their lives. Mr Thien enjoys learning about other cultures and has found Western punctuality particularly interesting compared to his flexible timetable as a fisherman. The son, Mr Quoc, talks passionately about his life, farming oysters, and fishing.

Start the tour by taking a small wooden boat to a house on stilts to meet the whole family. Next, journey further out onto the lagoon with Mr Quoc to learn about oyster farming and local fishing techniques, even getting to try them yourself. Finally, head back to the house on stilts, to enjoy a fresh seafood lunch prepared by the gregarious mother, Mrs Gai.
