How Vivu Journeys Protects Wildlife and the Environment

As tourism grows, learning how to protect wildlife while traveling has become more important than ever. At Vivu Journeys, we are committed to creating responsible travel experiences that respect wildlife, support conservation, and help preserve Vietnam’s natural ecosystems for future generations.

1. Why Protecting Wildlife Matters in Responsible Travel

Wildlife plays an essential role in keeping ecosystems balanced and healthy. When animals thrive in their natural habitats, they support biodiversity and help maintain the environment that both nature and people depend on.

However, the growth of tourism has also led to problems such as overtourism and wildlife exploitation. Activities like elephant rides, animal shows, or photo opportunities with wild animals may entertain visitors, but they often involve poor living conditions and harmful treatment.

This is why responsible travel is so important. By choosing ethical experiences and learning how to protect wildlife while exploring new places, travelers can help protect wildlife, support environmental conservation, and raise awareness about respecting animals and nature.

2. How Vivu Journeys Protects Wildlife

2.1. No Captive Wildlife Attractions

At Vivu Journeys, we do not offer excursions or attractions where wild animals are kept in captivity for entertainment. This approach helps protect wildlife and ensures animals are treated with respect and care.

In some cases, regulated facilities that follow local and international laws may care for protected wildlife species for conservation or social impact purposes. These facilities must be properly authorized and equipped to provide humane conditions for the animals.

As part of our commitment to safeguard wildlife, Vivu Journeys does not organize activities such as:

• Elephant camps
• Zoos
• Circuses
• Dolphin shows

2.2. Supporting Ethical Wildlife Care

In some cases, wildlife may be cared for by responsible organizations that support conservation or social impact. Vivu Journeys only works with suppliers that follow strong animal welfare standards based on the Five Domains of Animal Welfare. This means animals must have proper food and water, a safe and comfortable environment, good health care, and the ability to express natural behaviors.

Many of our tours also help protect wildlife by visiting protected natural areas. In fact, 9 out of 20 Vivu Journeys tours include stops at conservation areas such as national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and nature reserves, including places like Cuc Phuong National Park and Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. These experiences allow travelers to observe wildlife in natural habitats while supporting environmental conservation.

3. Reducing Environmental Impact to Protect Wildlife

3.1. Reusable Water Bottles for Travelers

Since our beginnings, Vivu Journeys has provided travelers with reusable water bottles instead of single-use plastic ones. We also work closely with our suppliers to help reduce and eliminate plastic waste during tours.

In 2024 alone, this initiative helped save 93,894 plastic water bottles from being used. By choosing simple solutions like refillable bottles, we reduce waste and help keep natural environments cleaner for wildlife.

3.2. Green Transportation

Transportation is another important way to reduce environmental impact and protect wildlife. At Vivu Journeys, we prioritize green transportation options whenever possible and encourage travelers to choose more sustainable ways to explore destinations and protect the environment.

Many of our itineraries include low-impact transport such as walking, cycling, cyclos, and trains, which allow travelers to experience local life while helping protect the environment. Today, 70% of our itineraries include sustainable transport options like walking, biking, or train travel.

We also work with suppliers that use electric vehicles when available. Currently, around 10% of our partners in North Vietnam and 30% in Central Vietnam operate electric vehicles, helping reduce emissions and support more sustainable travel.
