Cesar says

Catarina says:

“Growing up, I spent 99% of my vacations on farms in the Douro Valley. Harvest time meant jumping into the jeep while my mother drove, creating countless cherished memories. Today, with so many stories and experiences, it’s challenging to capture them all during a single tasting or visit. Each moment on the farm is filled with rich history and personal anecdotes, making every visit a unique and unforgettable experience.”

Rita says:

“For as long as I can remember, I just wanted to be in the winery making wine or in the vineyards learning how to take care of the grapes and create special wines. With my mother, I understood the beauty of wine, nature, and being surrounded by people from all over the world. Today, what makes me happiest is sharing all these stories and making each visit an unforgettable moment for everyone.”

Introducing our Local Legend, Sequeira Sisters – Rita and Catarina, owners and managers of Quinta das Sequeirinhas in the Douro Valley.

Rita and Catarina’s story

Meet the Sequeira Sisters, owners and managers of Quinta das Sequeirinhas in the Douro Valley. Catarina and Rita say wine is in their blood and their passion for wine was passed down from their mother. Quinta das Sequeirinhas is undergoing a complete restoration led by sisters who bring over 40 years of expertise in tourism and a rich family heritage in port wine production. This revival aims to blend the estate’s historical significance with modern hospitality, offering visitors a unique experience rooted in tradition and quality. The sisters’ extensive knowledge ensures that the recovery of the estate will honor its legacy while adapting to contemporary standards of comfort and service.

Catarina and Rita now operate Sequeirinha’s farm, continuing the family tradition with the help of their brother. They have combined their love of wine and tourism with their business acumen to further expand their legacy. Both sisters share a mutual love for meeting new people from around the world and are natural storytellers. They delight in sharing the rich history of Sequeirinha Wines, along with tales of their family and childhood in the Douro Valley. This personal touch enhances the visitors’ experience, making a visit to the farm both memorable and enriching.

The Sequeira Sisters agree that what makes their wine production special is the people involved and the location. At the estate, traditional wine-producing methods are still used, which the sisters believe brings alive the soul of the Douro Valley and showcases why the wine production in this region is so special.
