Kak Phirom
Born in a refugee camp on the Thai-Cambodian border during the Cambodian-Vietnamese conflict, Phirom’s early life was filled with hardship. Returning to Siem Reap with his family in 1992, he grew up in a country struggling to recover from decades of war. He working various jobs, from construction to selling livestock to tuk-tuk driving. Phirom never stopped dreaming of a better future and opportunities.
His passion for photography began when a tourist handed him a camera, sparking a love that led him to trade his tuk-tuk for a camera. Despite many initial rejections, Phirom pursued his dream, eventually earning recognition from Tribe Urban Art Gallery, where his solo exhibition, “One Day, One Way,” documents everyday life along Cambodia’s northern rail line.
