We are from a Katu hill tribe. In the local village, there is no school beside valleys and landscape and farming. So when presented with opportunities, we tried our best to learn English so that we could share our amazing tradition and Lao culture with the world.

Introducing our Local Legend The Weaving Sisters.

Their’s story

Mone and Doi, the talented “Weaving Sisters,” hail from the Katu tribe in southern Mekong Lao, where backstrap weaving has been a cornerstone of their community for generations. From the young age of seven, they were taught the intricate art of weaving by their parents, continuing a tradition deeply rooted in their culture. In the Katu hill tribe, weaving is not only a symbol of heritage but also a primary means of income.

Over 10 years ago, their family relocated to Luang Prabang, where Mone and Doi took their passion to the next level by founding “The Weaving Sisters,” a small business dedicated to crafting and teaching weaving. The sisters have found joy in sharing their skills with others, helping to preserve their cultural legacy.

What sets the Weaving Sisters apart is their unique blend of craftsmanship and warmth which makes each encounter memorable, as they continue to inspire others with their deep connection to tradition.
