Today, we will transfer one hour south west of Bangkok to visit the famous Mae Klong Railway Market. As you leave the urban scenery behind, enter beautiful Thai countryside. On the way to Mae Klong, pass by the Samut Sakhon salt pan. Here, you will see farmers utilising seawater and the hot sun to harvest the salt. Continue to Mae Klong where you will visit a market selling fresh fruit, vegetables, spices and other products alongside the tracks of a train. Join the crowds in anticipation as you hear the whistle of the train as it approaches the market. Watch, almost like magic as the stall vendors move their wares further under the cover of the market away from the train track. The train will then slowly pull through, within inches of the local produce but not touching them as it seamlessly glides between the market. Enjoy taking photos of the train and wave to passengers as they wave back in unison.
Next, we will continue to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market by car. En route, visit the Bang Kung Camp, used as an army camp by King Taksin the Great in 1767. The camp was also the site of a famous battle between the invading Burmese and the Thai armies and there is a replica wall here to commemorate the battle.
We will also visit Bang Chang, where we will see a local ceramics cottage factory. Here, you will see ceramic elephants, cats, plates and more made in an outdoor kiln. These items are then transferred to be painted in many beautiful colours and intricate, local designs. There is a shop here also where you can have the opportunity to purchase your own items.
Next, visit the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, a floating market located in Ratchaburi where locals sell fruit, noodles, beers and more from their boats. Whilst here, join a short boat ride along the canals and have the opportunity to barter for items as you cruise alongside local vendors. This is a really great opportunity to immerse with the locals and enjoy colourful interactions with the Thai people.
