Local Legend in the Limelight: Ms. Thi No, The Heart of Hoi An’s Harvest
In the charming Hoi An, where lush rice fields shape the landscape, our local legend Ms Thi No is cultivating more than just organic rice. She has dedicated her land to preserving the agricultural traditions of her community and championed Organic practices.
Organic Origins
Ms. Thi No’s story began with a vision to restore organic rice farming in her hometown. She saw how hard the local farmers worked and how little they benefited from their labour to produce rice. Her plan was simple, to introduce Organic rice practices which would provide good quality rice and better pay to the farmers. Despite initial doubts from those who questioned the practicality of her plans, she remained steadfast in her commitment to revitalising traditional rice cultivation. Her determination reflects a deep respect for the land and a drive to keep local farming practices alive for future generations.
Reflecting on her path, Thi No shares:
“… There is an old, abandoned Kiln on my farm, when people saw the land I was buying they thought I was wasting my money. However, there’s a well-known love story here in Vietnam about a man who falls in love with a woman at an old kiln – not for her looks, but for her character. Her name is Thi No, and that’s the nickname I go by. So, when I saw the Kiln on this farm, I knew I had to buy the land!”
Sowing Seeds of Hoi An’s Heritage
To reach her farm, Vivu guests can trace a path through Hoi An’s vibrant heritage. Along the way, the sights of carpentry and mother-of-pearl engraving reflect the craftsmanship of the region.
